Enviromental Considerations

[edit]

It is one thing to say that biodegradability has been well studied. More important is the ecotoxicological studies, none of which are referenced here and which depicts a much nastier image of LAS. http://aem.asm.org/content/67/6/2489.short http://scholar.google.fi/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&q=LAS+ecotoxicology will have to get back here to edit this uuuǝıɹ 15:38, 9 April 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riennn (talkcontribs) [reply]

LAS vs SDBS

[edit]

The first line of the page implies that linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is a "synonym" for sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). This hint seems to be falsified by the first section of the page, where it is specified that only some SDBSs are LASs (some sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonates can be branched). Moreover, for what I understood (unfortunately, I'm not a chemist), only some LABs are SDBSs. If I'm correct, this should be better covered in the article. Edit for entire page

[edit]

This page should be about the chemical sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, for example the chemical structure and the descriptions. A new page should be made for alkylbenzenesulfonates to include the generalized information. As it stands now, this is a page about a specific chemical, but it is written as a page on a class of compounds.Eframgoldberg (talk) 15:40, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Esponenziale (talk) 15:56, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Those suggestions are good ones. The problem is that Wikipedia Chemistry Project lacks the editorial expertise/time to write a general article on alkylbenzene sulfonates. So the rationale is that this article is a reasonable substitute for that broader topic. If however either of you have reason to suggest that LAS are not well represented by this article, please point out the deficiencies. Maybe your comments would motivate some action. We just dont attract many editors who know about industrial chem. --Smokefoot (talk) 05:02, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I know a bit and I've had a try, (currently here). Question: what to do with the current page? My feeling would be to delete (I've reused the good content) and redirect everything to alkylbenzene sulfonates. --Project Osprey (talk) 16:01, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Project Osprey: You are doing the work, you know the material, following your instincts and dump what is left after you are done. That is my recommendation. --Smokefoot (talk) 17:43, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --Project Osprey (talk) 19:20, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
